CloudEQ Helps CyberTIQ Build Scalable Infrastructure Using AWS Well-Architected

Overview

Cybersecurity startup CyberTIQ wanted to accelerate the launch of its innovative threat intelligence platform. But the company needed additional expertise and resources to build an infrastructure that could reliably scale to support its long-term growth ambitions and incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) into threat detection.


CyberTIQ turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and decided to collaborate with AWS DevOps Consulting Competency Partner CloudEQ. Together, the companies built a strong infrastructure with advanced security features for an innovative cybersecurity platform, optimizing costs, scalability, and threat analysis time.


Opportunity

Streamlining Threat Intelligence in a Scalable Platform with Advanced Security Features

CyberTIQ aims to pioneer the future of threat intelligence by providing a state-of-the-art software-as-a-service platform that uses advanced AI to help public and private sector companies combat information overload. The company estimates that 80 percent of cybersecurity alerts don’t directly affect a customer’s environment, so companies experience alert fatigue that can cause real threats to slip through.


But the company’s founders were experts in cybersecurity and platform engineering, not infrastructure. For their intelligent, scalable, low-latency platform, they needed an infrastructure that could handle high volumes of queries of large language models (LLMs), token-heavy AI models, efficient cost management, and rapid scaling to take on new customers.


In short, the infrastructure had to power a platform that could comb through notifications and call attention only to relevant threats while helping CyberTIQ’s customers use threat intelligence proactively. “We wanted some initial help to establish the building blocks without hiring experts and spending lots of capital on our infrastructure side,” says Vishvas Kumar, cofounder and chief technology officer at CyberTIQ. “We didn’t want to go back later to rebuild our infrastructure, which would be more expensive.”


Solution

Building a Strong Foundation Using AWS Well-Architected

CyberTIQ turned to CloudEQ, an AWS Partner since 2017, for its expertise in identifying excellent architectural design for a scalable, highly available infrastructure on AWS. “Working alongside CloudEQ meant we could focus on building our platform rather than worrying about infrastructure, security, and scalability,” says Kumar.


In January 2024, CyberTIQ began creating a proof of concept for its platform while working in parallel with CloudEQ to incorporate best practices for a scalable infrastructure that was designed to be secure. “CyberTIQ’s vision is not to be a small environment but to build the Empire State Building,” says Kevin Mead, vice president of business development at CloudEQ. “If we use a single-wide trailer home as the foundation, it’s going to collapse. A foundation that’s capable of supporting the Empire State Building will help CyberTIQ in every step of its journey as it progresses to achieve its goals.”


CloudEQ helped CyberTIQ incorporate the principles of AWS Well-Architected, which lets cloud architects build secure, high-performing, resilient, and efficient infrastructure for a variety of applications and workloads. CloudEQ is a member of the AWS Well-Architected Partner Program, which lets organizations establish good architectural habits, reduce risks, and respond quickly to changes that affect designs, applications, and workloads. “For any of our customers, AWS Well-Architected can be very tactical; they can find and remediate high-risk issues,” says Mead. “But we build strategy into the process. We ask about their strategic priorities and the big projects on the horizon in their wild dreams.”


As a practical implementation of AWS Well-Architected, CloudEQ helped CyberTIQ build and migrate workloads to a custom AWS Landing Zone, a solution that lets customers more quickly set up a secure, multiaccount AWS environment based on AWS best practices. CloudEQ also worked alongside CyberTIQ to fully automate DevOps pipelines to deploy infrastructure quickly while maintaining proper observability. “By helping customers lay out their strategic game plan, we help them develop how they build and operate in AWS,” says Mead.


Additionally, CloudEQ helped CyberTIQ access AWS credits, which assisted CyberTIQ to operate with greater speed and lower infrastructure costs. “AWS invests heavily in the success of its customers,” says Mead. “CyberTIQ is a perfect example of how organizations with lack of budget, bandwidth, or experience can use this investment to increase their speed and scale to meet market needs.”


Using CloudEQ’s prebuilt automations to accelerate the process, CyberTIQ was able to launch the beta version of its threat intelligent product in 6 months rather than the years it had anticipated. CyberTIQ’s customers significantly reduce alert fatigue, receiving one periodic actionable notification instead of a stream of garbage email messages and other communications. “Using AWS Well-Architected, we have built a working infrastructure that fulfills our needs,” says Kumar.


Outcome

Cutting Threat Analysis Time by 95 Percent

Since the initial release of its platform, CyberTIQ has transitioned to an event-driven architecture, increasing speed and capacity by 35 times. The company went from analyzing five threats in 7 minutes in its initial release to more than fifty threats in under 2 minutes. “AWS Well-Architected cannot be a one-time event,” says Mead. “Cloud environments are very dynamic. This is a rapidly moving target that customers need to build into their operating model.”


CyberTIQ’s customers benefit from AI efficiency at scale. Its platform handles 3,000–4,000 daily LLM requests to analyze unstructured threat data. It processes an average of 5–6 million tokens per day, using AWS tools to optimize costs despite high token usage. Additionally, CyberTIQ’s platform uses AI-driven automation to cut threat analysis time by about 95 percent, from about 167 hours of daily effort to under 8 hours.


The company seeks to build an AI model that can predict future threats and accordingly make recommendations for infrastructure adjustments. “This is the area where we think there is untapped potential,” says Paul Ashe, president and cofounder at CyberTIQ. “Of course, we are aware that building these LLMs takes a lot of processing power. Again, it all goes back to our foundation on AWS Well-Architected.”
